Niagara Region is holding a public engagement forum on May 15th, 2018 at 5:30pm to discuss and recieve feedback on changes being made to the Vacant Unit and Vacant/Excess Land Subclasses Rebate.
Since 1998, the Vacant Unit Rebate and Vacant/Excess Land Subclasses have provided tax rebates/reductions to property owners who have vacancies in commercial and industrial buildings or land. The Vacant Unit Rebate provides a 30% reduction of the property tax for vacant commercial space and 35% for vacant industrial space. Commercial and industrial properties or portions of these properties in the Vacant and Excess Land property tax subclass also receive a reduction. This reduction is set at 30% for both commercial and industrial properties.
The Province is now allowing municipalities to modify their rebate and reduction programs to reflect community needs, while considering the interests of local businesses.
The Region is requesting assistance from the community to consult on changes being made to these programs.
We invite you to participate in our short survey and/or join us for a Public Engagement Forum on May 15th at 5:30pm.
